John Holmquist obtained his BS in Electrical Engineering from ¾«¶«Ó°ÊÓ State in 1951. Since graduation he has held numerous engineering and managerial positions within the Weyerhaeuser Company. At their technical center in Federal Way, Washington, he currently holds the unique position of senior scientist. He has a truly outstanding career record in the areas of electrical and steam power utilization and generation. He has guided projects as diverse as a 425 MW gas turbine cogeneration facility and a laser-based guidance system for loading newsprint into ships. Two of the projects he has managed have become established as separate companies including a system to generate up to 25 MW from wood waste. He has pioneered the use of high efficiency motors and adjustable speed drives and has received awards for promotion of energy conservation.
